Matariki Art.

Today we made some Matariki pictures.
First we traced some stars then colored them in and put glitter on then glued it to black paper and added little stars.

Matariki has seven sisters which are the Matariki stars.

What I liked about the book was all the funny bits. For example What if we get hurt? What If Blow up? What if we go to jail? What If we meet Pirates? What If my beard was made of green Spinach.

I did not like how the writings so small.

My favourite part of  the assembly was making my mask and sharing it.

Maths

Mask Reflection

I made a mask to represent myself.
I like animals so I put rainbow paw prints on.
I also put whiskers and cat ears on to show I like cats.
The hard part was making my ears I first had to cut four triangles out of really hard cardboard then I rolled up 2 pieces of paper and used double sided sticky tape to join them to the cardboard then I used paper, salatape and pva glue to paper mache.
Then I painted them.
I did soccer balls because I like soccer.

Here is an example:

Growing Sugar Crystals

Yesterday Room 7 made sugar crystals!

First we made a saturated solution.  We  dissolved the sugar into water over heat to make it.

Next we  got  our cup and made it with an ice-block stick and string dangling into the cup.

Then we poured the sugar solution into the cup and made sure our string was dangling into the solution.

Last of that we put our cup on the window sill to make crystals.

My predictions:

I think when the sun will suck all the water up and there will only be sugar crystals left and the will grow and stick to the string.

Tennis

This morning room 7 went out to the courts to play tennis.

We learnt lots of skills. We played a game called poke. We had to poke the ball off other peoples bat, we had to keep the ball stable.To practice keeping the ball stable we had to walk around stand on one foot and skip at the same time as we were keeping the ball on our bat.

Waitomo Caves

Waitomo caves!

Yesterday the middle team went to the Waitomo caves on a bus  to learn about caves with some parent helpers.

First we meet our guide she told us what we are going to do and she also explained the rules we were not allowed to touch anything .

Then we entered the caves  when we were in the cave we learnt  about stalagmites and stalactites we saw lots of glow worms to when the light was on we could see the lines that the glowworms had let down to get there food.

After that we went down some steps to get to  the river we caught our boat there were glowworms above our head  it was dark they

twinkled like stars we paddled out of the cave we had morning tea after that.

Next we went to the museum we sort of had a little play there but we were learning about how it felt like caving and crawling through little tunnels like we were caving we learnt even more about caves there.

Then we went to the classroom we learnt about how caves are formed and what caves are made of we passed around fossils stalagmites stalactites lime stones and shark teeth. Then we had lunch.

After that we went on a bush walk we walked through lots of little caves there was limestone on the ground we could even take 1 limestone home.

Did you know caves are made of lots of sea creatures.

A Glowworm light glows more when it is hungry.

Snowflake and the evil queen!

Long ago, there was a wicked queen who had a daughter called snowflake but one day the queen sent a police man to kill snowflake because everyone loved snowflake more then the queen. But the police man was a nice police and told her to go live with the other princess. Snowflake had lots of fun there but when the queen found her she was so angry she poisoned an apple but then she found out that snowflake only liked green apples the queen gave up and sent her to live with the other princess.

Berry farm

Today we went to the berry farm and berries and got an ice cream.

Baby

On the 17 December my aunty had a baby!

France

When my dad got back from France he gave us a silver effeil tower key ring and a heart shaped key ring with parris on it and he also gave us a post card with mount Saint Michel on it and also a writing kit from his first class seats. 

Clay

When I was at my Bach I made clay with matu. With a dirt called clay wich was getting dinged out for a new long drop. We made lots of different creations and we also got to throw clay at the old long drop.

Beach

This morning I went to the beach in Ohope and I bogy boarded and used sticks to write Tegan and mila and janet(nana) and don and Aaron and mum and dad.

In room 7 we are learning about how other cultures around the world celebrate Christmas.

swimsafe

Last week we had our Swimsafe lessons at Waterworld. We learnt a range of skills.... freestyle backstroke dolphin dives floating breast-stroke (frog legs) how to rescue people who are in danger how to keep safe in deep water and lot's more! Here is a video of our swimming.

Christmas thinkers key

On the Christmas thinkers key  sheet I did number two and it is the the what if key and the question was what if you had to cook Christmas lunch?
I wrote if I could cook Christmas lunch there would be lollies everywhere, gingerbread, reindeer's sausage rolls, Christmas pudding  and more yummy Christmas food  and Christmas crackers will be going off everywhere we will be drinking lemonade and l n p and grape juice.

Piglets!

 We got some piglets. They live in an old water tank with a doorway cut in it, at a farm in Rangiriri at my Uncles house.They like kiwifruit and bananas.We are going to visit them on Saturday.

Bean plant

Ages ago we planted a bean seed and my one got a little bit big so I toke it home.But when we planted it in the glasshouse it got huge.

Firefly Galore

Suddenly I took a step and was in the middle of nowhere! The sun slowly separated and drifted through the sky. A big, bright castle stood in front of me like a tall tree staring back at me looking grand and lonely. Was I in Japan, Australia or America? I stepped into castle. It squeaked as if it was new. I looked out the shiny, glooming window and slowly the sky got darker! I saw a bunch of fireflies making bright golden lights lighting up the night sky. The Beautiful fireflies were holding up a sparkly banner. The banner said “You can have this castle!”

The Bed And Breakfast Star

Me and Leah are reading a book Bed And Breakfast Star.

Else is having a hard life in this book because she has been in 7 beds since she was a baby. She was named after a lion so when she was a baby her mum stuck her hair up into a lions mane she sounded like one too. Else tells jokes to do her best to cheer up her family but no one seems to laugh much any more because they lost their lovely house and had to live in a breakfast and bed hotel.

I think the story will be way different in the snow and the book would not be called Bed and Breakfast Star because there is no bed and breakfast hotel in the snow.

Birthday

Today is my sisters birthday we were going to raglan but it is to wet so we went to have McDonalds for lunch.

Well I am going to whakatane and the snow and I am probably going to be in hamilton the seconded week it is also my sisters birthday on the seconded Friday and she is going to have a tea party on the the seconded Saturday.

Today for Maths we solved some problems.

Trapped in a dogs kennel

One dark stormy night I was trapped in a dogs kennel with 7 loud dogs. But it was cosy among all the cushins. It was very warm too but I didn’t want to go to sleep. I wasn’t sleepy I was playful. I just wanted to play with the dogs but what if mum heard me from the house? I stared at the bones and dog food. The 7 dogs started barking as loud as a siren. I just played with the dogs. But when a dog called Sparks caught a frisbee I saw a bright light in Spark's mouth. Spark closed his jaws mysteriosly and out came a magic frisbee and a secret key.He started talking like a real person.

Dance groups

I am in the cheer leading team.We went to a competition and my team came second out of all the cheer leading. My favourite part is wearing our costume and doing the dance.

The Enormous Foot Print

One day I was running down the beach with my little sister. Suddenly me and my little sister came to a fast stop and looked down at our feet and there was ... an enormous gigantic foot print. My sister shyly followed the enormous foot prints with me. It took us to this huge world. We were like tiny ants compared to the huge world. My sister was even smaller. Suddenly the world shook and me  and my sister heard a whole lot of thumps. In front of us there was a gigantic giant as tall as the eiffle tower. Me and my sister ran as fast as we could home terrified to tell our mum there is a huge gaint in this world.My mum was terrified.
